We hope to kick-off youth coaching on 3rd April with an ‘open circuit’ gathering to let the children and their families re-discover the joy of riding round in circles. This will not be a free for all turn up and ride session. There will be pre-defined time slots so that the older youth riders don’t intimidate the younger ones.

However, this is all depends on two factors:
1) Guidance from Sport England (and British Cycling) on the return to play and
2) Getting the circuit cleared as it has not been used regularly for 12 months.
It should be swept before the end of the month, but we may still need to go and attack it with shovels and brooms to be ready for the easing of restrictions.
So if you can help out here, please post on the youth section's Facebook page.

Assuming everything goes to plan, we will post on the Facebook page about how to book slots etc. So, keep checking the page.

This should resume from Wednesday 31st March meeting back at Campbell Park. Please check the youth Facebook page for more info and tag Lisa Webb if you have any queries.

As BC released guidance just as we wanted to circulate this newsletter, we will provide updates to club ride via the club communications channels. But until 29th March we are still restricted to exercising alone, with our household, or with one member from another household.

We have all be looking to race this year and it is nearly upon us with dates being released for races! And I’m sure by now the roadmaps have been clearly set out for each governing body. But if you want an alternative race and you want to supplement your races and subdue your competitive nature, or simply guarantee a great work out the RGT virtual races is for you!

Team MK will be putting on 1 race a month on the last Sunday of every month starting this March. A mixture or RR 1/2 laps or criterium races. For more information about RGT please follow this link https://www.teammk.com/activities/rgt

As of the 16th I will be setting a regular Zwift training session on Tuesday evenings @7pm The aim of the session is to improve max aerobic fitness and vo2max and also work on anaerobic capacity. In order for me to send invites please if you haven’t change your tags to teammk after your name, and I can add you as a follower and vice versa

It will be on discord channel same as Sunday's and will be elastic banded also.
Any queries email Martin here: martin.quill@icloud.com

What races are you planning to do this year? Have you started planning your race season?
A few local races listed on forum (follow link below) that may interest you, take a look. We will release a Survey Monkey in the next week or so to ask you to indicate which races you will be competing in. We will use this information to help us plan Team MK Club Champions race and the Champions League.

All being well we will restart our Tuesday night run. The first session will be at 6:45pm on 30/03/21 meeting at Body Limits. We will have lots of exciting new plans, new run sessions, new run venues and cross-country league races. More details to follow

For 2021 the main news is that on Sunday 9th May we plan to run an open 20-mile time trial event on the Astwood Course – two circuits of the 10-mile course. This will be our first open event for several years. The event is part of the London Millennium series of events so hopefully will be well attended. Entry details are on the CTT website. We will of course need the usual timekeepers and course marshals and will put a call out for helpers soon.

We also have put together a club 10-mile time trial programme for the season which starts on Monday 26th April. There are some course checks we still need to make and when completed the schedule will be available on the club website with course details and entry information. Last year Jon Hunt was able to operate a live results page that riders and supporters could check as the event progressed which was great so hopefully, we’ll be able to run that this year as well. The first few Monday events are planned as follows:

Day Date Time 1st Choice Distance 2nd Choice Max Riders Come and Try?
Monday 26/04/2021 18:45 F5u/10 Nash 11.4 F5w/10 Whaddon 60 Y

It’s over a year now since we started looking at a replacement website after the British Cycling club site was closed. The current site is a holding set of pages that still links to the BC membership page and provides access to the Forum. Adam Pearson is currently working on a website option and we hope to be in a position to move to a better replacement solution soon.

You may have seen that MK Dons took over the MK Bowl at the start of 2021 with a view to developing the site for their practice pitch and training complex. There are a number of associated facilities due to be built there including a purpose-built cycle circuit. During 2021 it is expected that the bowl will be available for all the usual cycle training and events – subject to the Covid 19 restrictions of course as development work on the Bowl is not likely to start until 2022. One other change is that the club purchased the Green Hut container that we have used for a number of years to store equipment for £900. This gives us scope to make better use of the storage.

We received our first order of club kit in December from the new supplier Epic Orange. Because of the lockdown period starting in January, we decided not to open another order window yet, but we have ordered some sample kit that will help members with sizing. Although we can’t yet make any arrangements for the sample kit to be tried on, we hope that in the near future we can.
