Team Keyne Training
Team Keyne is based in Milton Keynes and has become one of the most successful youth cycling squads in the country.
They were founded in 1997 by Bob Varney as Youth Development Squad for the parent club Team MK. From the start, the club embraced the concept that all cycling disciplines should be found within one club and many past members have gone on to race at national and international level including Team Sky rider Ian Stannard and 2011 National Junior Road Race Champion Hannah Barnes.
Team Keyne provides a number of ways of getting into cycling for riders from 6 to 16 years old:-
Team Keyne Youth Challenge
Team Keyne provides a gateway into cycling competition through its 'Youth Challenge', which runs on Wednesday evenings at Milton Keynes Bowl, from April to July each year. This provides a number of different activities for U6s through to U16s that are both fun, and seek to improve the cycling skills of those involved. These include mountain bike, road and time trial sessions, all of which take place in the traffic-free arena of the MK Bowl. There is an entrance fee per session, and the club finishes the series with prizes and awards for participants. More details of this years programme is HERE
Saturday Coaching
Team Keyne also provides a full programme of coaching for riders from 6 to 16 on Saturday afternoons in a traffic free environment at the MK Bowl. The sessions cover mainly road during the Spring and Summer, off road racing in the Autumn and a mixture during the winter. All the coaches are qualified to British Cycling Levels 1 and 2 and we are a British Cycling Go-Ride registered club also receiving Sport England Clubmark status. Full details of the current coaching programme is HERE
Central Cyclo Cross League
Cyclo cross is off road racing usually round parks and woodland that lets riders develop their bike handling and fitness. Team Keyne has been very active in the Central CX League, winning the youth club trophy for the last 2 years. The races are from late September through to Christmas and are all based in the South midlands and Thames Valley areas. More details of the 2011 league will be on the Team MK web site in the Summer and also on www.centralcxl.org.uk
